# Stencil Lab > Stencil Lab turns any photo, artwork, or logo into art-grade multi-layer stencil files with spray-paint colours already matched, for spray-paint artists, muralists, and makers who then either cut the layers themselves or send the files to Stencil Lab to be cut and shipped. A multi-layer stencil is a set of separate cut sheets, one per colour. You spray them in sequence over the same surface and the colours build up into a finished image. Producing that set by hand means isolating each tone in design software, deciding which shapes belong to which layer, and keeping every sheet in register with the others. It is the part of stencil work that eats the most time and produces the least art. Stencil Lab automates the separation. You upload an image, optionally remove the background so detail is spent on the subject rather than on scenery you do not want, and choose how many layers you want (up to 20). The tool splits the image into that many aligned layers, adds registration marks so the sheets line up when you spray, and lets you adjust the drawing parameters with the result updating in real time. Colour matching is the second half. Pick a spray paint brand and every layer is matched to a colour from that brand's official chart, so you know exactly which cans to buy before you cut anything. Brands shown on the site include Montana Gold, Montana Black, Flame Blue, Flame Orange, Kobra, Kobra LP, Molotow Premium, Loop, Liquitex, MTN 94, MTN Hardcore, and Rustoleum Painters Touch. Individual layer colours can be overridden by hand. Exports are PNG, SVG, and DXF, aimed at hand cutting as well as plotters, Cricut machines, and laser cutters. PNG export is on the free plan; SVG and DXF are Pro. There are two ways to work: Quick Create, a guided flow for getting a stencil out fast, and Studio mode, which adds layer management, background removal, advanced bridging tools, and fine-tuning. Stencil Lab was founded by spray paint artist Tom "Welly" Wells. ## Product - [Stencil Lab home](https://stencillab.ai/): What the tool does, the four-step flow from upload to export or order, paint-brand matching, and current pricing. - [Community gallery](https://stencillab.ai/gallery): Public stencil projects made by Stencil Lab users, browsable for examples of what the output looks like. ## Learn - [Tutorials](https://stencillab.ai/tutorials): Video walkthroughs for Quick Create mode and Studio mode, plus the FAQ on supported image formats, export formats, and ordering physical stencils. ## Company - [About Stencil Lab](https://stencillab.ai/about): Why the tool exists, founder Tom "Welly" Wells, the pricing philosophy, and a detailed description of how the processing pipeline works. ## Optional - [Terms of Service](https://stencillab.ai/terms): Account, subscription, acceptable use, intellectual property, and DMCA terms. - [Privacy Policy](https://stencillab.ai/privacy): What is collected, how it is used and shared, retention, cookies, and data rights. - [Refund Policy](https://stencillab.ai/refund): 30-day guarantee terms for Pro monthly, Pro annual, and Lifetime, plus non-refundable items and cancellation.
